Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that he would not remain in his office when FCT Administration staff are being attacked outside.
Wike was responding to his recent altercation with a navy commander on a disputed piece of land purportedly belonging to a former Chief of navy Staff when he spoke to reporters Thursday.
The Minister took exception at what he described as the retiring navy chief’s foolishness in sending active-duty officers to protect the contested land.

He emphasised his responsibility as a public person to step in when government staff were being attacked, stressing that he could not stand by and watch helplessly.
“How can I sit as a minister while directors and other government workers are being assaulted and beaten? He said, “And I’ll just sit in my office doing what?”
According to the GISTCON, Wike, his group, and a few troops got into a violent argument on Tuesday over a piece of land in the Gaduwa district.
The Minister claims that the former navy officer was developing the disputed plot without permission and that he challenged the naval officer for allegedly assaulting FCDA officials who had gone to stop the construction.
The former governor of Rivers State criticised the use of military forces to obstruct FCT authorities’ legitimate enforcement efforts, calling it an intolerable misuse of power.
