Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the youth wing of the top Igbo sociocultural organisation, has called the Nigerian government’s recent efforts to free former Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu “heartwarming.”

In a statement provided to reporters in Enugu on Thursday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the organization’s national president, spoke.

According to Okwu, the administration showed little interest in the Ohanaeze youths’ repeated attempts to get the attention of the late Muhammadu Buhari, the former president at the time.

He expressed his happiness at the steps taken by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to make it easier for Ekweremadu to return to Nigeria.

According to the GISTCON, President Tinubu’s delegation, headed by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, has begun discussions with UK authorities over the potential for obtaining Ekweremadu’s transfer to Nigeria to serve out the remainder of his prison sentence.

“This unique action by the administration of President Bola Tinubu further demonstrates his love for the Igbo people,” Okwu stated.

“President Bola Tinubu has persisted in doing for Ndigbo what the previous government purposefully chose not to accomplish.

The Ohanaeze youth president begged the Tinubu administration to see through Ekweremadu’s return to Nigeria, while also applauding the choice of another Igbo man as one of the service chiefs.

Ndigbo will never take this one action—or any of the others—for granted, and they are thankful to Mr. President for taking the initiative.

“After starting the process, we implore the government to ensure its successful completion,” Okwu said.
