The recent kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State has caused Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas to postpone his intended defection to the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
The governor called the incident “heartbreaking” in a statement issued in Jalingo on Tuesday, adding that it would be disrespectful to continue political activities while families and the country are still in shock.
Following the heartbreaking abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, Kefas stated, “I made this decision because I felt that the children’s safety and welfare were far more important than any political activity.”

He conveyed the Federal Government his thoughts and sympathies to the families of the girls who had been kidnapped.
The governor stated that the suspension of his defection plans was now required, emphasising that the children’s safety and welfare come before any political action. In order to guarantee the victims’ safe return, he also ordered security forces to step up rescue operations.
In anticipation of more discussions and an improvement in the security situation, the defection event that was originally planned for November 19, 2025, has been postponed.
Ahead of the governor’s intended move, political realignments in Taraba State have gotten more intense.
In the past 48 hours, the Secretary to the State Government, local government chairmen, cabinet members, and every PDP member in the State House of Assembly have switched to the APC.
Speaking to our correspondent, a few party leaders praised the governor for delaying the defection rally, calling it a gesture of support for the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and their families.
