Innocent Idibia, better known by his stage name 2Face, is a legendary singer from Nigeria. He has said that the song “African Queen” was the catalyst for his career and that he still finds great personal meaning in it.
Despite its many advantages, he claimed the song has been a hindrance.

When it comes to problems, African Queen has been an incredible boon to me. However, he expressed his gratitude for everything.
With the 2004 release of African Queen, 2Face became the first African artist to win the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards, catapulting him to worldwide fame.
But since 2Face’s ex-bandmate Blackface has often claimed that 2Face stole the song from him, there have been disputes regarding who wrote the song.
Although he denied ripping off his old comrades, 2Face did acknowledge in an earlier interview that they had written “African Queen” together.
For almost twenty years, the song has continued to spark debate. In August 2025, the song was declared the “greatest Afrobeats song of all time” by Billboard, which sparked a new dispute.
