In response to his absence from last week’s Council of State meeting, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, issued a warning against blackmail and propaganda.

Wike clarified that he sent a representative to the meeting because of other commitments, stressing that he works for President Bola Tinubu.

According to reports, President Tinubu rejected Wike’s choice for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairmanship, which caused him to miss the Council of State meeting. The council accepted Prof. Joash Amupitan’s nomination as INEC Chairman during the meeting.

Speaking at Sector Centre B’s access road commissioning in Dakibiyu District, Wike stated:

We had a flag-off sometime last Thursday, and I gave the FCT Minister of State instructions to speak on my behalf at the Council of State meeting.

The Minister of State represented the FCT in that meeting since I had previously notified Mr. President that I would not be available due to other prearranged engagements.

For this reason, we must exercise caution when others disseminate needless blackmail and misinformation. However, if you stay focused despite those obstacles, you will succeed.

They said that I skipped the event because I was upset that my nominee had not been accepted. I work for Mr. President, and his judgement has always, in my opinion, been focused on placing this nation in the proper perspective.

“I’ve advised folks to focus and not to worry. Once you begin to deliver, your accomplishments will silence your detractors. They have nothing more to say today, but we are focussing on roads, so I told them to relax.

“Very soon, they will see that we will be focussing on schools, so critics will have nothing to say,” Wike added, revealing that his administration plans to soon concentrate on the education sector. They watch national television when they wake up in the morning.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to his Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, for her assistance in fulfilling his duties as FCT Minister.

You’ve said it all, my dear Director of Ceremonies. I met you when I was appointed Minister of State for Education in 2011–2012, and you provided us with all the assistance we needed to operate the Almajiri schools and Universal Basic Education. Having a Minister of State who has been so helpful makes me delighted.

“Having two ministers collaborate and work so closely is difficult. As a Minister of State, I was aware of the events that took place in other ministries. You cannot do anything if you do not cooperate.

Therefore, I would like to thank you for your assistance and applaud you, Minister of State. I also appreciate your support, especially from the FCDA via the ES. You and the STD Coordinator were in charge of the majority of the projects we are contracting.
