On Friday, as instructed by the association’s national secretariat, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital would go on strike.
Dr. M.O. Awodun, president of the UITH branch, revealed this during a Thursday phone conversation with XANDERTECH in Ilorin.
When asked if the chapter will follow the national secretariat’s orders about the nationwide warning strike that was supposed to start on Friday, Dr. Awodun assured that they will comply if the federal government does not fulfil their requests.

But he clarified that the strike that began on Monday is limited to the Abuja chapter of the organisation at this time.
“The Abuja chapter is on a warning strike for one week, but we are not on strike,” he said.
He claims that on Wednesday, members of the Abuja national secretariat met virtually and decided to go on a five-day warning strike if the federal government does not address their demands.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Agbor Affiong, the General-Secretary of the association, Federal Capital Territory Administration, XANDERTECH learnt that the 5-day warning strike is scheduled to begin nationwide on Friday, September 12, 2025, in order to emphasise their demands for improved working conditions.
All centres are being instructed by the national secretariat to notify the hospital management and persist in advocating for the association’s common demands.
The association’s goal is to prevent the country’s public hospitals from functioning in order to address various issues, including but not limited to: low pay, inadequate working conditions, power outages, and downgrades of certifications.
This week’s Monday marked the beginning of the strike by the association’s chapter within the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
