Tinubu fires Fegho Umunubo, special adviser on the economy

Fegho John Umunubo’s appointment as Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy in the Office of the Vice President has been terminated by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The formal cause for his removal was not provided by the Presidency.

The declaration was made public on Monday, September 8, 2025, by Abiodun Oladunjoye, the State House Director of Information and Public Relations.

“The general public, stakeholders, and constituents of the digital and creative economy around the world are informed that FEGHO JOHN UMUNUBO, who had previously worked as the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been officially removed from his position effective immediately.”

The statement went on to say that players in the creative and digital industry should not engage with Umunubo on behalf of the administration and that his disengagement was effective immediately.

The N5 billion Creative Fund program allegedly had a contract violation that led to Umunubo’s suspension on September 2, contrary to earlier reports.
