On Saturday, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, paid a visit to the family of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the late Awujale of Ijebuland, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Rashidi Ladoja was crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadan at the same time as the Sultan paid a visit to the Adetona family.
When he met with Prince Saud Adedire Adetona, the royal family’s heir, the Sultan asked for prayers for the late Awujale.

He urged everyone to keep him in their prayers and to do so whenever they could. It is customary for Muslims to pray for their leaders during Jumuah, one of the five daily prayers. Since they no longer play their role in society. Their departure has left us to carry on with what they have left behind. as well as the empty space that remains from what they have given us.
Before anything else, we want to express our gratitude to Almighty Allah for blessing us and uniting us this afternoon as a family. Along with my Awujale ancestry, I mentioned that we are all part of one giant family. Everyone here is a member of this family, but I must pay special attention to the moms and any Oloris that may be here. Standing behind me on the right is Kuku, my long-time friend and confidante, whom I’ve known since long before I became Sultan thanks to the illustrious hospital. We’ve known each other via King’s College.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu, the greatest form of greeting, is what I use to greet you, brothers and sisters here and other outstanding members of the Awujale.
We have been praying for our brother, our friend, since he was alive, when he was operating from indexes, and when Almighty Allah called him. As soon as we arrived home, we went straight to his cemetery and offered our prayers, and we thank Almighty Allah for that. Please, Allah, pardon him and grant him paradise (Aljannat al-Firdaus).
In addition, he provided guidance on how to maintain calm in Ijebu Land prior to, during, and after the ceremony to choose a new Awujale.
We should strive to be our best selves. Let us act in accordance with our beliefs if we want peace in our neighbourhood, our nation, and, of course, our own families’ lives. In our view, the family is fundamental. Moreover, I want to encourage this family to keep reaching out to each other and to the rest of us for peace because, praise be to God, every development begins with a family.
We beseech the Most High Allah, subhaanau wa ta’ala, to bestow upon us an Awujale whose deeds will outstrip those of our brother Adetona. We ask that he provide us someone who can bring everyone together in this community. According to the Sultan, “the whole country and the entire South West.”
