The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is extended to Edo by the Nigerian government.

An additional 100 kilometres of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will now cross Edo State, according to the Federal Government’s formal announcement of the project’s expansion.

This was announced by Works Minister David Umahi at the Edo State Independence Gala Night, which took place at the State Villa in Benin City. He clarified that Edo State was initially left out of the alignment of the massive coastal highway project, which was first conceived by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about fifty years ago.

“Unfortunately, Edo State was not included in the previously announced route. The reason the distance is now 750 km instead of 700 km is because of a miracle that occurred here. According to Umahi, the president ordered the route to stretch from Lagos to Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and finally conclude at Cross River.

The minister praised the Edo State government and people for backing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, according to a statement sent by his media assistant, Orji Uchenna Orji. Despite long-standing financing and infrastructure deficits, Umahi promised the state’s citizens that federal infrastructure projects will be executed in a timely and high-quality manner.

He also praised Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, for stepping in to help repair the Benin–Sapele–Warri route, calling the section a “death trap” for drivers.

Umahi acknowledged the contractor CBC’s efforts and gave them instructions to increase work and give the ministry daily progress reports to guarantee on-time delivery.

In his speech, Governor Okpebholo thanked President Tinubu for continuing to upgrade federal highways in the state and for sanctioning the coastal highway’s extension to Edo.

He said that the President’s goodwill towards the Edo people was evident in the inclusion.

I was nearly brought to tears by the condition of the road when I recently drove through this axis. The governor stated, “Our people cannot go about their daily activities without struggling on these roads.”

“The criticism should serve as a wake-up call for all of us, as the President is doing his best.” “There will be no room for complaints if I do my part and the Federal Government does its part,” he continued.
