Claims that nine local government areas are being besieged by armed bandits have been denied by the Kwara State Government as foolish.

“I couldn’t be more wrong. In a statement made in Ilorin on Monday, Bolanle Olukoju, the state commissioner for communications, announced that no local government area in the state is now under siege.

The vicious escalation and fake news being spread by opposition elements both inside and outside the state are not warranted by the sad issues we have experienced in a few locations, she claims.

Based on their involvement in spreading false information—such as the baseless assertion that nine LGAs are under siege and the movement of gunmen in areas of the Asa local government area—we have sufficient grounds to infer that these elements are the online promoters and equivalents of bandits.

It is with much sorrow that we note that Mr. Peter Obi has allowed his social media accounts to propagate such false information. His role as a statesman does not call for this. “We kindly ask Mr. Peter Obi to remove the post because it is completely inaccurate and unsuitable,” the Commissioner further stated.

Furthermore, she begged the public not to spread rumours and unproven claims because they might lead to widespread anxiety, uncertainty, and even psychological harm.

“The security forces already have enough on their plates, and this irresponsible behaviour is making things harder for them,” Bolanle added.
