The process of the Presidential Prerogative of Mercy is still being subjected to final administrative assessment, according to the federal government.
The administration said that President Bola Tinubu’s pardoned prisoners have not been released.
Tinubu recently pardoned Sir Herbert Macaulay and one hundred seventy-four others, following confirmation by the State Council.

Notable individuals like the Ogoni environmental campaigner Ken Saro-Wiwa and the executed 1986 coup plotter Major General Mamman Vatsa are among the recipients.
Maryam Sanda, who was given the death penalty for the murder of her husband in 2020, is also on the pardon list.
The exercise is still in the verification and review stage before formal instruments of release are issued, according to a statement on Thursday by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.
No inmate has been freed from detention as a result of the recent use of the President’s power of prerogative of mercy, according to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
“Before any instrument of release is issued, the process is completed at the final administrative stage, which includes a standard review to ensure that all names and recommendations fully comply with established legal and procedural requirements,” the statement stated.
