Report N54 billion; APC leader confronts Gov. Otti for clout-chasing with Nnamdi Kanu

An APC leader in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has urged the state’s governor, Alex Otti, to stop trying to gain political clout by associating himself with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and instead focus on answering the questions and being accountable to the people of Abia State.

The governor’s recent public comments on the Nnamdi Kanu matter, according to Prince Ikonne, were an obvious effort to get attention.

A statement was issued on Saturday in Abuja by Prince Ikonne’s Chief Press Secretary, Ujo Justice.

Ikonne voiced his displeasure that Governor Otti seems to have persisted in diverting attention away from his mounting track record of poor performance and dubious financial practices by emphasising critical national concerns.

That Governor Otti has decided to play politics with the people’s emotions by bringing Nnamdi Kanu’s name into his failed government narrative rather than providing Abians with a clear account of how public monies are being spent is sad, according to Ikonne.

When Prince Ikonne asked why the supposedly N54 billion “Smart School” project and the N6 billion “Recreational Centre” built during Otti’s government have gone missing, the governor seemed dishonest and untrustworthy.

He dared the governor to reveal the precise sites of the projects and even invited the journalists to check them out.

If these projects do in fact exist, the governor should have commissioned them during the recent public unveiling of certain repaired roads. Why is it that all of the reports coming out of Abia Government House wind up being nothing more than social media posts with no real world impact? The question was posed by Ikonne.

“For more than two years in office, Governor Otti never paid a visit, never made a concrete intervention, and never demonstrated any concern about Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s situation,” the APC leader remarked, addressing the matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The legitimacy of his regime is crumbling, and he is abruptly reminded of Kanu. According to Ikonne, that is the height of hypocrisy.

Otti recently told the GISTCON that Nnamdi Kanu, who was re-arrested in Kenya by the Nigerian government in June 2021, will soon be free again.
