Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has come under fire from Liverpool great Steve Nicol for his remarks against the expelled Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi.
Nicol suggested that the Italians consider promoting the youngsters to the U23 squad rather than excluding them from the system altogether.
The former Leicester City manager was called out by Nicol for making the “load of nonsense” comparison between the work of his 75-year-old father, a fisherman, and that of the players.

Nicol questioned why Maresca should let other players go through what he had, at his prematch press conference on Saturday before Chelsea’s loss to Manchester United. Maresca had been kicked out of the first team before.
Regarding Sterling’s treatment, I think Maresca made some ridiculous remarks. How can you involve your father in it? On ESPN FC, he stated it.
“The fact that your dad works as a fisherman from 2 in the morning until 10 in the afternoon has nothing to do with the cost of bread.
“Be quiet; this is complete and utter bullshit. The fact that Maresca states, “I was in a similar situation” demonstrates why such treatment of those players is unacceptable. They feel terrible about it, and you know it.
After disappointing on loan with Aston Villa and Arsenal, respectively, Sterling and Disasi were unable to earn permanent contracts with either club last season.
They failed to secure the necessary transfers away from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, and Maresca has insisted they would not play for him again, excluding them from team meals and training.
