Legendary actor Robert Redford dies at the age of 89

Robert Redford, 89 years old, was a legendary actor, director, and producer.

The legendary actor reportedly died quietly in his sleep at his Utah home early Tuesday morning, according to US media.

Redford passed away in his Sundance home with his family by his side, according to a statement from his long-time publicist Cindi Berger.

Berger stated, “He will be missed greatly,” and the family has asked for privacy.

The 1969 Western masterpiece “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” in which Redford co-starred with Paul Newman, catapulted Charles Robert Redford Jr., who was born on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, to international fame.

Following twenty years of acting, Redford made the leap into directing, where he went on to win the Oscar for Best Director and co-found the Sundance Film Festival, a global platform for independent filmmakers.

Much of Redford’s life was devoted to preserving Utah’s landscapes and natural resources; this devotion extended beyond the film industry.

He was one of the most consequential people in Hollywood, both on and offscreen, during his six-decade career.
