Former Imo State lawmaker Ngozi Ogbu has been abducted; the state government has stated that it is coordinating with law enforcement to guarantee her safe return.
Politicians, the state administration said, should not exploit the situation for cheap political points.
Declan Emelumba, the state’s commissioner for information, public orientation, and strategy, made it public in a statement that the administration is exerting much effort to ensure Ogbu’s freedom.

The public can be assured that the Imo State Government is making every effort to ensure the safe return of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, who was kidnapped a week ago.
The kidnapping of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly and Chairman of Okigwe Local Government, was caused by a blatant and criminal conduct, which the government strongly condemns, according to the statement.
The administration demanded that politicians, particularly those it held responsible for instigating the state’s insecurity, stop using the former lawmaker’s tragedy for political gain.
The commissioner argued that doing so would be to put his life in jeopardy and would also diminish the severity of his pain.
Bringing a husband’s, father’s, and fellow citizen’s lives into politics is, to put it mildly, completely unacceptable.
“The Imo State Government remains fully dedicated to safeguarding lives and property and will persist in exerting maximum effort to ensure the safety of Imo,” the statement continued.
