Leaving the NNPP is not out of the question, according to Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin.

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a lawmaker for the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, has stated that his decision to desist from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will not come as a shock to anyone.

In an interview with DCL Hausa, Jibrin discussed how he had to give a little to stay in the party, even if the Kwankwasiyya movement got him back into the National Assembly in 2023.

He clarified that he is under no need to adhere to the party’s platform, as the NNPP has publicly stated its willingness to engage in negotiations with other groups.

Just as he never criticised Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former governor of Kano state, despite their differences, he would always hold Kwankwaso in high regard and not insult him, he continued, even if they part ways politically.

What does Jibrin think about the possibility of leaving the NNPP? “Nothing is impossible,” he remarked. Any of these parties would be acceptable to me: NNPP, APC, ADC, PDP, or PRP. It is up to me where I go. I shall declare my stance whenever I think it is necessary.

Despite his continued membership in the NNPP, Jibrin is widely believed to have close ties to President Bola Tinubu. He left the APC in 2023 after serving as Tinubu’s campaign director.

Jibrin recently told Channels Television that Kwankwaso is personally interested in joining the ruling party again.

Hon. Jibrin has been quite outspoken about the former governor’s potential transfer to the APC, even though he is not Kwankwaso’s official spokesman.

Negotiations between Kwankwaso and the ruling APC are welcome, he added, in the run-up to 2027.
