Idris, the Minister of Information, said that Christians and Muslims were targeted, but Nigeria is safe.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, has said that Nigeria is a secure place to live, even though there are problems with security.

Idris said this in an interview with CNN in response to charges that Christians were being attacked in a genocidal way.

He said that both Christians and Muslims have been targeted and that it is false to say that Nigeria does not allow religious freedom.

Idris says, “Nigeria isn’t that bad.” Yes, we have seen attacks on some Christians and Muslims as well. But it’s not right to say that Nigeria doesn’t allow religious freedom.

“It’s also not true that Nigeria is unsafe everywhere. Nigeria is a safe country, however we do know that the Northeast has security problems.

“Boko Haram used to control some of the Northeast’s territories, but that is no longer the case. They used to control roughly 14 local governments at a time, but that’s not the case anymore.

“At one point, it was hard to travel around the country, but that’s not the case anymore. The Nigerian government is doing everything it can to keep people safe and their property safe, as well as to make sure that people can go about their business.

“Some of the things that some U.S. officials say are based on bad data.”
