The committee charged with overseeing the service of the Edo State House of Assembly has begun looking into allegations that Alhaji Yahya Audu Omogbai, the clerk of the house, lied about his age.
According to XANDERTECH, concerned employees of the Edo State House of Assembly petitioned for the investigation.
In an invitation to the troubled clerk, the commission chairman, Hon. Ezehi M.D. Igbas, announced the formation of a three-man ad hoc team to conduct the probe.

The clerk was invited to appear before the committee for an interview session on October 14, 2025, according to the invitation letter dated October 13, 2025.
Reporting at the commission’s conference room at No. 20, Oghosa Crescent, off Ihama Road, GRA, Benin City, at 2 pm, the clerk was ordered to appear.
The relevant employees petitioned the clerk on October 10, 2025, alleging that he had lied about his age to stay in office longer.
The clerk, they said, is no longer eligible for retirement benefits as she is 60 years old.
They further asserted that he would have served for more than the required 30 years, as his first appointment was in 1993.
The petitioners went on to say that the troubled clerk was trying to sabotage the probe by not turning over official documents that were relevant to the claims.
On the other hand, they begged the commission to look into the allegations seriously and intervene to ensure that the Edo State House of Assembly remained honest and followed the rules.
The Edo State Assembly has been embroiled in a dispute over the participation of EFCC agents in a verification exercise, according to staff members.
The development was met with widespread condemnation by the workers, who said that the anti-graft agency’s involvement went against the grain of their previous physical verification operations.
But some employees were happy about it, saying the Assembly’s payroll is full of “ghost workers” and that the EFCC’s help is needed to find and fire them.
