The next governorship election in Anambra will be Professor Joash Amupitan’s first big test as chair of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), according to Samson Itodo, executive director of YIAGA Africa.
This comment was made by Itodo on Thursday during an appearance on Politics Today, a show that DAILY POST watches on Channels Television.
He pointed out that Professor Amupitan’s qualifications show that he is competent and intelligent, but that the real test will be when he takes office and deals with election issues.

His background suggests he can handle it. Does he possess the mental capacity and resilience? Based on today, it’s certain that he does.
However, this is only a preliminary screening; a more rigorous evaluation will await him after he assumes office. The Anambra election is just a few weeks away, and that will be the first big test, Itodo said.
About 2.8 million people and 16 political parties are likely to take part in the Anambra Governorship Election, which is set for November 8, 2025, according to DAILY POST.
A number of competitors, including APC candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu and Labour Party member George Moghalu, will challenge APGA Governor Chukwuma Soludo for reelection.
The director of YIAGA in Africa claims that the law professor has the ability and honesty to head the electoral body, and that he now needs to show bravery and autonomy in office. This was proven during the Senate screening.
