The by-elections for the Anambra South Senatorial and Onitsha North 1 State House of Assembly that took place on Saturday were won by the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Election results for the seven LGAs that comprise the Anambra South Senatorial District and the Onitsha North 1 seat were announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission. APGA was declared the victor in every ward.
While the Onitsha North 1 seat was contested following the killing of its former holder, Justice Azuka, the senate by-election was held to fill the seat left empty by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s death.

The APC received 19,812 votes and the YPP 6,538 votes; however, APGA emerged victorious with 90,408 votes.
Notably, APGA will be representing Anambra South in the Senate for the first time.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State responded to the news by expressing his joy at the result and thanking the winners.
To ensure a calm and orderly process, the governor praised INEC and all parties involved.
His post read, “Yesterday, the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election was won by APGA!” We received more than 75% of the vote, which translated to victory in all 118 wards across seven LGAs and 99.99 percent of voting units. All eight wards in Onitsha North Constituency 1 were won by the APGA, marking another historic triumph. We are truly grateful for your support.
Honourable Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, the first APGA candidate to be elected as senator for Anambra South, and the newly elected member-elect for the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency, Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, deserve our heartfelt congratulations.
