According to the Fulani people of Plateau State’s Riyom Local Government Area, locals have been attacking herdsmen and killing their cows without provocation. The Fulani have requested an end to this violence.
A statement was signed by Abdullahi Yusuf, the group’s secretary, on behalf of the herders in the council. In the statement, Yusuf pleaded for an end to organised attacks on Fulani herders without provocation in order to prevent the huge bloodbath that often follows reprisals.
“Another Attack on Fulani Herders in Riyom” is the name of the statement in which Yusuf detailed the assault on a Fulani herdsman by a group of young Berom men, who assaulted him, killed a cow, and injured many others. The herdsman suffered serious, maybe fatal injuries.

Fulani people in Riyom Local Government Area want the world to know about another attack on their people that was not provoked, according to Yusuf.
Fulani herder Aliyu Sale Shehu was assaulted by individuals believed to be Berom youths about 4pm on Thursday, 2nd October, 2025, in the vicinity of Rim community, Rim Ward, Riyom LGA, Plateau State. Shehu sustained gunshot wounds as a result of the attack.
Another eight cows were wounded by gunshots, and one cow was killed in the same incident, he added.
Unprovoked as it was, Yusuf claimed the attack was just one of many in Riyom targeting Fulani herders, who are seeing their livelihoods eroded.
The statement continued by saying:
If any of the impacted herders choose to resist, they will be labelled as bandits and aggressors, and our people would be brutally attacked.
No official statement, official action, or justice has been issued by either the government or community leaders since Thursday’s attack on Sale. Keeping quiet does nothing but give the assailants more confidence and makes the innocent Fulani herders’ agony worse.
“Before these senseless clashes descend into a deeper catastrophe, we implore the Plateau State Government to rise to the occasion and take decisive action,” the statement read.
Riyom and Plateau State recognise the Fulani as full citizens; safeguarding our lives and property is a top priority. “Enough is Enough,” he said again.
