The sensational musician John Ighodaro, better known by his stage as Johnny Drille, has remembered how his musical style initially made it difficult for him to land a recording deal.
He claimed that despite pressure to alter his music from two large labels interested in signing him, he decided to stay true to himself.
The “Wait For Me” singer clarified that signing him was a risky move on the part of Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records.

He stated that Don Jazzy initially signed him not for financial gain but mostly because he enjoys his music.
“People could never have imagined that a Mavin Records under Don Jazzy would sign an alternative artist like myself,” Johnny Drille stated in a recent CreativTea podcast episode. Many individuals found it strange.
Two other prominent labels in Nigeria expressed interest in signing me, but the topic of discussion was always how to alter your sound. How can we speed things up? How can we get it to be danceable?
But there weren’t any discussions like that when I first met Don Jazzy. He was simply a huge music lover. It was a risky move, but he succeeded.
After competing in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa in 2013, Johnny Drille rose to fame. 2015 saw the release of his first song, “Wait For Me.”
The singer’s first album, “Before We Fall Asleep,” was released in 2012, and he joined Mavin Records in 2017.
