Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has stressed the need of the continent’s large youth population taking on leadership positions.
He emphasised that today’s youth must realise they are leaders now, not just tomorrow.
Obasanjo called on the young of Africa to use their overwhelming numbers for good and finally bring about the change that has been promised for so long.

Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (retd.), Nigeria’s former chief of defence staff, made similar comments, stating that the country’s leaders should take President Trump’s “guns-a-blazing” threat against what he claims is Christian genocide in Nigeria as a signal to step up their efforts to combat instability.
Both speakers were present at Monday’s Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The retreat’s theme was “Africa and the Conflicts in Europe and the Middle East,” and it was hosted by the Youth Development Centre of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
The yearly lecture drew attendees from all around Africa, including Nigeria, according to XANDERTECH.
In light of recent claims of widespread violence against Christians in Nigeria, Trump has threatened the possibility of military intervention. He asserted that he had instructed the Pentagon to be ready for “possible action” in the event that the Nigerian government did not stop the deaths, threatening to suspend aid and launch a “guns-a-blazing” assault.
“You are leaders of today because if you leave tomorrow in the hands of leaders who are there today, they will destroy it; you won’t have your tomorrow,” Obasanjo told the gathering of young people.
