Traditional leaders in Niger will organise villages for a vaccination campaign against measles, polio, and rubella.

Alhaji Muhammadu Bara Muazu II, the Emir of Kontagora, and Mallam Ahmed Garba Gunna Attahiru II, the Emir of Kagara, have promised to organise their communities for a vaccination campaign against measles and rubella.

The traditional chiefs pledged to support the Niger State Ministry of Primary Health Care’s lobbying and awareness-raising efforts in their respective fields.

The emirs pledged to educate parents about the value of vaccinations and persuade them to consent to their children receiving them.

Dr. Mohammed Gana, the ministry’s permanent secretary, stated that the World Bank-backed initiative intends to vaccinate youngsters against polio, rubella, and measles.

He said, “The initiative is part of the state’s commitment to proactive public health measures under the administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.”

Hamza Tijani, the IMPACT campaign’s project manager, underlined the value of thorough vaccination in reducing the morbidity and death linked to these illnesses.

Additionally, medical professionals Drs. Hauwa Nnatako and Junaidu Innuwa emphasised the seriousness of measles and rubella while guaranteeing that children would receive the vaccines at no cost.
