The new tax law includes a 5% petroleum products tax, although the federal government has stated that no plans to impose it immediately.

Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, announced this during a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

The tax has reportedly infuriated many Nigerians, who have taken to the streets in protest, with organised labour threatening to stage strike action until the government backs down.
