Azeez Fashola, better known by his stage name Naira Marley, is a rapper from Nigeria. He has asked the Lagos State Police Command to look into the death of Mohbad, a singer he had signed.
On Tuesday, he made the call while narrating a video that aired on his YouTube account, in which he denied any participation in Mohbad’s death.
Naira Marley, who insists he is innocent of any wrongdoing in relation to the musician Mohbad’s death, has called on the authorities to re-arrest him, his accomplice Samsan Balogun, better known as Samlarry, and anybody else they find guilty.
He insisted on assigning the case to a reliable officer this time.

I returned to Nigeria to lend my assistance to the police, as we can see that fingers are being pointed in our direction. So I returned to make sure they were completely uninvolved and to investigate everyone involved so that he may receive justice, he explained.
For two months, I stayed in Panti. I had to battle for my passport once I emerged from Panti; they were holding it. I was of the opinion that interrogation regarding Mohbad’s death was acceptable, but that my detention was unnecessary. For more than a year, we haven’t crossed paths. No worries though.
To keep me there, there was a gang-up and conspiracy. The group conversation was leaked, and the identity of the Panti officer in charge of the case was disclosed in it. The topic of judges came up as well.
I will advise the police to detain everyone once more if you ask me. “Held accountable by an officer we have faith in,” he admonished.
Additionally, Naira Marley disclosed that he had reached an agreement with Mohbad’s attorney to distribute his royalties to whatever family member is named executor of his estate by the court.
As reported in the XANDERTECH on September 12, 2023, Mohbad passed away in a highly contentious manner. Naira Marley, his former record label head, and Samlarry were both implicated in his demise.
They were both released after completing their bail terms after spending two months in custody at the Panti State Criminal Investigation Department following the charges in 2023.
Owodunni Ibrahim, also known as Prime Boy, a boyhood friend of Mohbad’s, was also arrested and then released on bond in relation to his death.
Prime Boy disputed claims that he fought or injured Mohbad during their last performance together (the D’General Bitters Ikorodu gig) on September 10, 2023, just before the singer passed away, in an interview with self-proclaimed activist VeryDarkMan in July 2025.
Auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe was also taken into custody for reportedly injecting Mohbad with the substance that caused his death.
The decayed condition of Mohbad’s body rendered a clear cause of death hard to ascertain, according to the testimony of two independent pathologists who performed separate examinations, as noted by the Lagos State Coroner’s Court.
“The death is not linked to any evidence of foul play, but to medical negligence,” highlighted Magistrate C.A. Shotobi.
Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse, will be prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as instructed by the court.
