The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Ekiti State was won by the well-known doctor Dr. Wole Oluyede.
Thousands of party members, including 535 delegates selected from all 177 wards in the state, flocked to the Ado-Ekiti poll site for the PDP Primary poll, which was hotly contested.
In order to keep the peace, the election centre was surrounded by a large number of security personnel, including members of the army, police, civil defence, Mopol, and others.

Starting at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, the poll ran until precisely 1:49 a.m. on Sunday.
With 279 votes, Oluyede defeated Funso Ayeni (239 votes) and Funmilayo Ogun (17 votes), according to Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and a lawmaker for the Gombe North Senatorial District.
As a candidate for Oluyede, Peter Obafemi resigned, saying that he was not doing it for himself but rather to keep the peace within the party.
He spoke well of Oluyede, praising him as an honest and capable individual who, should he become the party’s nominee, could lead them to victory.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Oluyede praised the process’s integrity and transparency and said that the result was a win for the whole PDP.
The candidate thanked the party’s national leadership, particularly Ambassador Iliya Damagum (National Chairman) and Engr. Seyi Makinde (PDP Southwest leader), for their efforts to ensure a fair primary.
Amidst calls for unity among Ekiti residents, he made a solemn promise to end the state’s misrule under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and restore faith in government.

Everyone can be considered a democratic advocate or ally in this election; there will be no losers. This primary shows that Ekiti is about to experience real change because of the maturity, honesty, and justice demonstrated in it.

While praising the party’s efforts, candidate Funsho Ayeni pointed out that manipulation tainted the process and promised to utilise the internal mechanism to rectify the situation.
“The PDP Chairman in Ekiti State,” According to Tunji Odeyemi, the party’s leader, the primary was a huge success and a step in the right direction towards their objective of retaking the state from the APC.
The long day of voting began in the morning and continued well into the early hours of the following day. Odeyemi commended party members for their tenacity and urged all aspirants to stay united.
We have been aiming for this outcome ever since I became chairman, and now we have it. Praise be to God. We disproved the widespread belief that this primary would trigger a catastrophe. With God’s help and our shared aim, we shall seize control of Ekiti State.
That seat can only hold one person. We need to put our differences aside and work together to elect a candidate now that one has surfaced. We are fully prepared to assume control of Ekiti State.
