Makinde is urged by the Oyo Assembly to provide the N500 million promised to Ajimobi Technical University.

Governor Seyi Makinde has been urged by the Oyo State House of Assembly to fulfil his promise to provide N500 million to the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in Ibadan for the fiscal year 2024.

The lawmakers emphasised that steady funding is essential to maintaining the institution’s administrative and academic operations and requested the governor to start making monthly subvention payments to the school in January 2026.

A motion seconded by Hon. Babajide Adebayo of Ibadan North Constituency II and sponsored by Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi, who represents Ibadan South West Constituency II and is the Chairman of the House Committee on Tertiary Education, led to the adoption of this resolution.

Fowokanmi, who made the motion, bemoaned the university’s severe underfunding, which has impacted its academic activities, staff welfare, and infrastructure.

He pointed out that the school’s current sources of funding—scholarships, internal income, and TETFUND support—are insufficient to cover its expanding requirements.

He praised Governor Makinde for establishing the university’s Governing Council, calling it a major step in the direction of institutional stability.

He did note, nevertheless, that the N500 million that the state government had previously declared in 2024 had not yet been distributed.

The member clarified that after the new minimum wage was approved, the school’s financial load increased even more, causing management to turn to bank loans in order to pay employees and fulfil other commitments.

Fowokanmi’s request that the Committee on Tertiary Education communicate with the university administration was granted by Speaker of the House Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

Ogundoyin claims that the involvement will assist in auditing the school’s accounts, internally generated income, and general financial records in addition to uncovering additional issues the institution is facing.

He underlined that the results will direct the Assembly’s action and allow it to give the university more robust legislative support.
