Gabriel Suswam declared that he has no intention of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite serving as governor of Benue twice.
On Friday, newsmen in Makurdi were able to hear from Suswam, through his media assistant Mr. Bede Bartholomew, who denied the reports.
At a state banquet that Governor Hyacinth Alia supposedly extended an invitation to, rumours circulated online that Suswam would formally join the APC.

According to Bede, the ex-Representative was merely attending a governor-hosted state supper.
He vehemently refuted claims that his principal had betrayed him by joining the APC.
A few minutes ago, I got phone calls from concerned citizens and influential Benuelites informing me that there was a rumour circulating on Benue’s social media platforms that Sen. Suswam, the state’s former governor, had defected to the APC.
Rumour has it that Governor Hyacinth Alia will be hosting a reception for Suswam this evening in the Government House Banquet Hall in Makurdi.
“I strongly deny this malicious rumour since it does not reflect the present interests of Suswam or his followers throughout the state.
From what I understand, two days ago Alia politely invited Suswam and other interested parties to a state banquet scheduled for October 10, 2025. Suswam expressed his intention to attend.
According to him, Suswam’s acceptance of the offer was motivated by his involvement in the Benue project as a former governor of the state.
According to him, the invitation letter made absolutely no mention of the occasion being a political gathering or a decamping ceremony.
