According to investigative journalist Jaafar Jaafar, President Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket may be to blame for US President Donald Trump’s recent military warning against Nigeria.
According to Jaafar, Trump’s latest attacks on the Tinubu government are a “karmic payback” for his use of religion in the 2023 Nigerian elections.
Trump made the statement after he designated Nigeria as a nation of special concern. The president of the United States made reference to what he saw as the government’s inaction in protecting religious minorities and the persistent violence against Christians.

Trump threatened military action unless Nigerian authorities responded quickly to allegations of religious persecution, despite the country’s denials.
Although he disagreed with Trump’s use of religion to incite hatred and drive a wedge amongst Nigerians, Jaafar did offer some commentary on the matter.
He felt that the Muslim-Muslim ticket was unwise for Nigeria’s national stability, notwithstanding its political correctness.
On Monday, Jaafar posted on X: “Trump’s selective outbursts over killings under the Tinubu administration is a karmic payback for using religion to gain political advantage.” Similarly, Trump is unjustly fuelling resentment and dividing us via his religious rhetoric. Regardless of how politically correct the Muslim-Muslim ticket may be, it is detrimental to our nation’s stability. Politics is about more than simply numbers; it’s also about being inclusive and learning to give and receive. “Votes” are a product of numbers, but “political stability and unity” are not.
