The move by US President Donald Trump to name Nigeria as a nation of particular concern (CPC) over claimed religious persecution has been criticised by Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central.
Sani said in a Saturday post on X that the categorisation is unfounded and based on false information, and that bandit and terrorist assaults in Nigeria do not discriminate based on religion identity.
According to him, it is “technically impossible” for one denomination to systematically persecute another in Nigeria due to the country’s religious demographics. He compared the scenario to “a Lion and Tiger” rather than “a Lion and Zebra” design.
