Governor Nwifuru supports the idea of making a new state in the South-East.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has fully backed the construction of a new state in the South East zone. He called it a “necessity” to fix the long-standing imbalance in Nigeria’s federal structure.

Nwifuru said this to reporters right after the State Executive Council meeting at the Executive Council Chambers, New Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki.

He suggested that the South East should have another state to make it equal to the other geopolitical zones in the country.

Nwifuru said, “Yes, I want another state to be made in the South East because the region needs it.” “It will help fix the imbalance we’ve seen over the years.”

The South East is still the only part of Nigeria with five states; other parts have six or more. Leaders from the zone have long said that this is bad for politics.

Governor Nwifuru didn’t want to say anything definite about rumours that Ebonyi State would lose three local government districts to the new state. He said he hadn’t heard anything official about it yet.

He said, “I am no longer in the legislature; I am now in the executive.” “I haven’t seen any papers about that, so I can’t respond to one I haven’t seen.”

The governor was worried about the growing trend of young people using social media to criticise state officials and seniors. He said that this attitude was not appropriate and was not acceptable in our culture.

Nwifuru said, “People are cashing out.” “Our young people are starting to insult their elders, but they should know what happens when they do that.”
