The Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development in Niger State has refuted claims that it has shelved ongoing infrastructure and transportation projects throughout the state.
At a press event in Minna, Permanent Secretary QS Hassan Baba Etsu denied the accusations, stating that natural and logistical causes outside of human control are primarily to blame for project completion delays.
He clarified that the present rainy season and security issues in various areas of the state are among the issues.

He claims that “many roads are unsafe to continue construction on due to heavy and prolonged rainfall, as the wet ground conditions compromise the quality and durability of the projects.” Due to safety concerns, some contractors have been obliged to temporarily remove their employees from project sites until things improve.
In order to guarantee a seamless restart of construction operations, the Permanent Secretary added that the state administration is well aware of the current circumstances and is collaborating closely with pertinent agencies.
While promising the public that the ministry would carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the issue, he refuted allegations that some communities in Minna were requested to pay before contractors built culverts to their homes.
Baba Etsu stated that the ministry has an open-door policy and that instead of depending on rumours, the public is urged to contact the office directly for correct information.
Only qualified and properly verified contractors are hired to complete projects because the Niger State Government has a zero-tolerance policy against contractor laxity and non-performance.
The Permanent Secretary insisted, “We want to reassure the public of the ministry’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and quality delivery in all of our infrastructure initiatives.”
