Attacks by Lakurawa terrorists cause Sokoto community to cry out

Sokoto State’s Kebbe Local Government Area residents have petitioned the federal government for the right to keep and carry arms.

Suspected members of the Lakurawa terror gang have been relentlessly attacking the neighbourhood, prompting the request.

The locals, speaking through a community leader named Alhaji Adamu Kebbe, told reporters in Sokoto on Saturday that they have had enough of the robbers’ relentless bloodshed and looting.

Because the government’s reaction to their predicament has been sluggish and insufficient to arrest the catastrophe, the community has blamed state and municipal authorities of leaving them to their fate.

Kebbe expressed their frustration that the government is not doing enough to safeguard them and that they are unable to sleep because of the insecurity in the neighbourhood.

To help local governments equip security forces and react quickly to attacks, locals have asked the federal government to provide direct financing.

Their point was that new terrorist organisations like the Lakurawa and the infamous gang headed by Bello Turji have been wreaking havoc in the local government areas of Isa, Sabon Birni, and Kebbe in recent years, making Sokoto State one of the most bandit-hit states in Nigeria.

Government actions, according to locals, have failed miserably in ensuring residents’ safety.

If the government does not intervene, the people of Kebbe have stated that they will have to protect themselves.
