Sowore is given a week by DSS to remove any posts that criticise Tinubu.

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, has been given a week by the DSS to remove a social media post that it deemed as “false, malicious, and inciting” about President Bola Tinubu.

Sowore was accused by the DSS of making criminal and disparaging words about the president in an August 26 post on X, according to a letter dated September 7.

If the message is not removed, it will be necessary to use all legal means to safeguard the nation’s security and maintain public order, it said.

XANDERTECH notes that Sowore, a pro-democracy activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), had characterised President Tinubu as a criminal in the article.

After President Tinubu allegedly said that corruption had disappeared under his administration, the publisher of Sahara Reporter accused him of deceiving Nigerians.

“The remarks have aroused outrage among individuals and could “incite public unrest, discord, and even insurrection,” the DSS warned in response via its Director of Legal Services, Uwem Davies.
