The chairman of Ariaria International Market in Aba, Mr. Michael Aniorji, has been suspended from office with immediate effect by the Abia State Ministry of Trade and Commerce.
The suspension follows a four-day demonstration at the Aba North LGA offices in Eziama by a segment of the traders’ organisation, who were purportedly supported by Aniorji, over what they perceived as the actions of a private shop developer against them.
In contrast, after Aniorji’s suspension, Commissioner Kingsley Nwokocha named Mr. Hyacinth Nnabude acting Chairman of the market.

Nnabude, who would be serving as Chairman, would be in charge of all market affairs, he announced to the public, particularly the traders of Ariaria Market, about the development.
Without providing an explanation for Aniorji’s suspension, the Commissioner urged all groups and individuals involved to work together with the interim Chairman for the benefit of Abia State and the market as a whole.
XANDERTECH notes that on August 23, a different group of traders, headed by Hyacinth Nnabude, publicly supported the plans to renovate the Ariaria Market by the Abia State Government. They cited the fact that numerous shops in the current market were affected by structural defects, flooding crises, and leaking roofs.
They cleared a private developer, Chekbest International Limited, of any wrongdoing in their plot to force the merchants out of their stores as well.
