In response to the conflict between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Tonye Cole, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has spoken out.

The Rivers State gubernatorial contender for 2023 said in an interview airing Friday on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” that Nigerians just cannot afford another fuel shortage.

Another petrol shortage is the last thing the people of Nigeria need right now because of how bad things are already.

Therefore, whenever there is a dispute between Dangote and NUPENG, the government steps in to mediate.

Certain things must occur in a democratic society. To start, it’s important to recognise and accept that no private entity would ever desire a union. That is absolutely not their intention.

But checks and balances are essential for any system to function. That is the reason why unions are essential. Their role is to act as a check and balance on the employees.

The government, on the other hand, is sworn to safeguard the common good. Plus, harmony exists when all parts are cooperating. “Today, Nigerians simply cannot afford another fuel shortage,” he declared.
